Hyderabad: GHMC Commissioner Dr. B. Janardhan Reddy on Wednesday said that the corporation has intensified relief operations across the city in view of heavy down pour for the last two days.
Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, the GHMC Commissioner informed that 200 Emergency Teams and about 25,000 personnel have been deployed to tackle the emergency situation.
Entire administration is on alert in view of Indian Metrology Department (IMD) forecast of heavy to very heavy rainfall for next two days.
An emergency convergence meeting with all the line departments was conducted on Wednesday to tackle the situation which is likely to occur during next 48 hours.
The National Disaster Response Team and Fire Department have also been involved. They are being provided boats and arrangements have been made for de-watering the cellars and other points of water stagnation.
He said that the citizens can get the accurate information of the weather forecast from imd.gov.in.
Dr. Janardhan Reddy also informed that excess flow of the water from Hussainsagar was being released and people living in low lying areas were being shifted to safer places.
He also appealed to the residents living in dilapidated buildings to vacate the buildings for their safety.
The GHMC Commissioner appealed the citizens to utilize emergency number 100 only in emergency situations like heavy rains etc., to solve their grievances at once. For regular grievances, the citizens may call on the number 040-21111111.
Replying to a query, HMWS&SB MD Dana Kishore said that the Water Board was investigating into the hole in front of NTR Gardens. He said that the works would be completed in a week’s time. He appealed to the citizens not to open the manhole covers and to cooperate with the department to prevent any untoward incidents during heavy rains.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner M. Mahender Reddy said that the entire police administration was on field to tackle the emergency situation. He said that the police was concentrating on traffic regulations. (INN)
