Holy month of Ramzan commences in TS, AP

Hyderabad: The Holy Month of Ramzan has begun in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday night after Central Ruiyat-e-Hilal Committee confirmed sighting of crescent.

The Central Ruiyat-e-Hilal Committee announced that the Holy Month of Ramzan has begun on Wednesday night and the first Roza or fasting will be observed on Thursday.

Majlis-e-Ulema-e-Deccan president Syed Mohammed Qubul Pasha Quadri Shuttari gave the official declaration after the religious Ulema (learned men) met at Hussaini Building, Moazzam Jahi Market. Jamia Nizamia chief Mufti Khaleel Ahmed, Moulana Mufti Azeemuddin, Moulana Syed Kazim Pasha Quadri Al-Moosavi, Moulana Syed Auliya Hussaini and others were also present.

It is apparently for the first time in history that the Ramzan has commenced on the same day in Saudi Arabia and India. Since Ramzan crescent was not sighted in the Gulf countries on Tuesday, people across India expected that Ramzan month would commence here on Thursday night.

However, the crescent has been sighted in Tamil Nadu and Telangana which eventually led to the official announcement that the first Roza will be observed on Thursday. Soon after the announcement, Taraveeh prayers were held in all the mosques across the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Special arrangements have been made at all mosques across the State for the conduct of Taraveeh prayers in the night. In Mecca Masjid, nearly 8,000 to 10,000 Muslims participated in the Taraveeh prayers where three Paaras (chapters) of Holy Quran are being recited each day. Similarly, management committees of different mosques have made arrangements for the conduct of Taraveeh prayers.

Arrangements have also been made at several places for Simaat-e-Quran, the congregations where Holy Quran is recited. Such gatherings are primarily attended by women. (INN)
