Hyderabad leads in many respects. It produces many icons, technocrats, philanthropists, and activists. It grooms youth for a social change too. We came across one such young man with a passion and mission to serve the society. It is Raghavendar Askani, a lad of the city!
Those familiar with Youth Parliament conducted in Osmania University, an event meant for youth to discuss public policy of the government, would recall Raghavendar. He is the driving force behind it, and many youth-friendly programs.
He is a social entrepreneur and well-known for his contribution in civic engagements and empowering youth through platforms including Youth for Better India and Youth Parliament Programs at Swatantrata Center, a platform co-founded by him.
Raghavendar’s involvement with Youth Parliament Program, which allows youth to voice their opinions, ideas and act as a change agent in Building India, has created a considerable impact on matters such as Citizens’ Charter Bill and National Education Policy.
When asked what made him venture into youth-service, he replied with a smile, “Right from college days, I realized the potential of youth and found direction to my own career. For me, as I have learnt from my elders, serving others is like doing good to yourself. I made it my motto.”
Raghavendar has quite a few achievements to his credit: he contributed to the hosting of policy conclaves, leadership bootcamp, policy meetups, Youth Parliament and Swatantrata Yatra. In the Covid-19 pandemic, Swatantrata hosted one of its largest virtual conferences #SWACON on Human Flourishing.
Besides his personal commitments, Raghavendar set a goal of investing in public policy, making social change by bringing community participation and enhancing youth and women in the governance process.
He said his programs offer right platform for young and aspiring entrepreneurs, academicians and policy watchdogs to contribute towards making India a better nation.
