Hyderabad: TPCC Treasurer and official candidate of Congress party in MLC elections Gudur Narayana Reddy has accused Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao of murdering the democracy in Telangana.
Speaking to media persons at Gandhi Bhavan on Tuesday, Gudur Narayana Reddy said he would got elected as Member of Telangana State Legislative Council if KCR would not have encouraged defections in Congress party. “KCR has lured some Congress MLAs with money to make them defect to TRS.
Despite having required numbers, Congress party was unable to win the seat due to defections. We were forced to boycott the elections which consequently resulted in TRS-MIM win all five seats,” he said.
Gudur Narayana Reddy said KCR has been trying hard to make his son K. Tarakarama Rao the next Chief Minister. However, he shattered the dreams of my mother who wanted to see me get elected as MLC. “KCR is practising unethical and ugly politics in Telangana.
He has completely smothered democracy and all its institutions in the State. Despite having absolute majority in Assembly and Council, KCR is still busy damaging the opposition parties in the State.
Historically it has been proven that all tyrannical regimes fall one day. Similarly, KCR’s tyrannical and dictatorial rule will surely come to an end soon,” he said.
He thanked Congress President Rahul Gandhi, TPCC President Uttam Kumar Reddy and CLP leader Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu for selecting him as party candidate for MLC polls.
He also thanked all the legislators who supported him. However, he said it was due to KCR’s greed for power that he could not get elected as MLC although legally and morally he should have got that post.
Gudur Narayana Reddy alleged that KCR has been misusing his power unfairly and cruelly. “KCR doesn’t believe in any ethics and wants to rule the State on the basis of a rate card for MLAs and MLCs. When he is unable to defeat someone in the electoral battle, he is trying to buy them out using ill-gotten money.
This practice will not last long and the State will soon witness the political fall of KCR and his family. Those who do not believe in democracy will not survive for a long time. They might feel happy by winning small battles. But they face humiliating defeats in the longer run,” he said.
The Congress leader said that a ruling party and opposition were essential components of a democratic form of government. “A strong opposition is needed to ensure proper functioning of a government in an accountable and transparent manner.
But KCR does not want anyone to question his wrongdoings. He hates transparency and he dislikes accountability. He wants to rule like a dictator and therefore, he is trying to finish the entire opposition in a systematic manner. KCR cannot murder democracy by buying out some MLAs, MLCs or other leaders on elected post,” he said.
“There is a famous quote of Mahatma Gandhi which says, ‘Remember that all through history, there have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they seem invincible. But in the end, they always fall.’
Therefore, as a devotee and follower of Mahatma Gandhi I strongly believe that all his words would come true and I can foresee the fall of KCR from here,” he said.
Gudur Narayana Reddy said that the Congress party never compromised on its ideals to win MLC elections. “We remained ethical throughout the process and boycotted the elections only to prevent further deterioration of politics,” he said. (INN)
