Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Chief Spokesperson Dr. Sravan Dasoju has ridiculed the claims being made by caretaker Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao of sacrificing power for the sake of people of Telangana.
Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan on Saturday, Sravan alleged that by advancing Assembly elections, TRS has not only imposed additional burden on public exchequer, but also created huge obstruction in the development of Telangana.
Questioning the rationale behind TRS changing its stand on holding simultaneous polls, he reminded that on 6th July, 2018, KCR had submitted a representation to Law Commission Chairman B.S. Chowhan recommending ‘One State, One Election’.
He also played a video clip of TRS MP Vinod Kumar wherein he explained KCR’s stand on simultaneous polls for Assembly and Lok Sabha.
Ironically KCR took a U turn within two months and on 6th September, 2018 dissolved assembly on the pretext of political fragility enforcing two elections within 2-3 months causing huge burden on state exchequer and deprival of development for almost 9 months and it only shows the height of hypocrisy of Mr KCR, Sravan said.
He also pointed out that “KCR has sacrificed people’s interest just for his own political gains.
Sravan said that KCR had earlier contended that separate elections for Assembly and Lok Sabha results in waste of time and resources like administrative and security.
KCR was of the view that separate elections for Assembly and Lok Sabha also increases the expenses of political parties and the development process get affected due to imposition of Model Code of Conduct twice. Despite making such tall claims, KCR dissolved the Assembly almost nine months ahead of scheduled polls.
He said KCR has failed to explain the reasons that forced him to impose early Assembly polls on people of Telangana. He said there was no logic behind holding Assembly and Lok Sabha elections within a gap of four months.
The Congress leader claimed that KCR had a sensed a humiliating defeat if elections are held on time. Since TRS Government had failed to implement a single major electoral promise, KCR apparently feared that it would be impossible for any TRS leader to even enter a habitation and face the people.
Just to avoid questioning by people on his failure to deliver on promises, KCR enacted the drama and dissolved the Assembly nine months ahead of schedule. KCR was also worried over the rising popularity of Congress party among masses, he said.
Sravan leader said people of Telangana would never forgive KCR for burdening them with additional expenses by advancing Assembly elections and gave call to public to question TRS contestants for whose benefit these early elections.
