Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President Capt. N. Uttam Kumar Reddy appealed to the professionals to join the Congress party to save democracy which was under serious threat under both BJP and TRS regimes.
Speaking at the launch meet of Telangana Chapter of All India Professional Congress at Hotel Fortune Katriya on Sunday evening, Uttam Kumar Reddy pointed out that the first cabinet of Independent India had several professionals including Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Law Minister Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
He said professionals remained associated with the Congress party for several decades. However, he said for some reasons professionals drifted away from Congress and some unknown reasons, they became admirers of BJP and Modi in 2014 elections.
He said now the professionals have realised and understood the true colours of PM Modi and his government and started returning to the Congress fold.
Uttam Kumar Reddy said AICC Vice-President Rahul Gandhi made a conscious effort to bring professionals back to Congress by launching AIPC. He said Rahul Gandhi’s call was highly relevant.
He said professionals must come into politics to decide what is best for the country and also to ensure resolution of issues being faced by people associated with their profession.
He said there was no organisation in the country which takes up issues concerning professionals. He said there was no real forum to discuss and understand those issues. With the launch of AIPC, he said now the professionals would be able to highlight issues concerning their fraternity.
The TPCC Chief said that the situation in the country today was highly alarming wherein a bunch of goons, backed by ruling BJP, try to dictate what people should eat, drink or water. He said nowhere in the past, any Prime Minister of Chief Minister has ever dictated people how to live their personal lives.
He said the forcible imposition of opinion has put Indian democracy in a serious crisis. He said everyone must raise their voice against such moves. He accused PM Modi and Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao of throttling democracy and dismantling democratic institutions.
Citing examples, Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the Telangana Legislative Assembly was being misused to carry out propaganda of government schemes. He said Assembly has no more remained a place to discuss public issues. Instead, KCR has reduced it to an instrument of propaganda.
He said opposition was not getting the deserved time and opportunity to express its views. He said the misuse of Assembly has put the entire democratic set up in a grave danger.
Similar is the situation at the national level. He said he never imagined that almost all the channels would go one-sided, turn bias by submitting before the ruling party in one way or the other.
Calling himself an accidental politicians, Uttam Kumar Reddy recalled his journey after graduation from National Defence Academy to joining the Indian Air Force, flying fighter jets, handling combat and then the high-profile job in Rashtrapati Bhavan to contesting Assembly elections.
He said professionals must enter mainstream of public life not only to express their views, but also to save democracy and the country.
The meeting was also addressed by AICC Secretary R.C. Khuntia, AIPC South India Chairman Dr. J. Geetha Reddy, Telangana unit chairman Dr. Dasoju Sravan and others. (INN)
