KTR, Akbar Owaisi spar over lengthy questions

Hyderabad: Municipal Administration Minister K. Tarakarama Rao and MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi had a mild argument on the floor of Telangana Legislative Assembly on Saturday when the former objected to MIM leader asking lenghty supplementary questions during Question Hour.

KTR said that the MLAs should keep their questions brief to save the time to facilitate discussions on other issues. Taking strong objection, Akbaruddin Owaisi said he was a senior MLA and prefers detailed clarification from the ministers.

However, he said that the ministers were not giving satisfactory answers and the House was being run in an autocratic manner. He recalled that in the past it was K. Rosaiah who used to give detailed replies to the doubts raised by the MLAs.

In the present Assembly, he said except for Deputy CM Kadiam Srihari, no other minister appears prepared to give replies to questions raised by members. He said earlier no restrictions were imposed on the length of questions to be asked by members and it was the prerogative of the minister to decide whether or not to give reply to them.

However, KTR denied all the allegations and asked Akbaruddin Owaisi to withdraw his remarks. Giving clarification, the MIM MLA said he did not accuse the government of functioning in an autocratic way.

A similar argument took place between KTR and BJP MLA Chintala Ramchandra Reddy during the discussion on a question pertaining to drinking water supply in Hyderabad. (INN)
