Hyderabad: Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao on Saturday urged the Union Minister of State for Home G. Kishan Reddy to seek the handing over of defence lands in the region for taking up development works.
He said the State Government planned a flyover at Rasoolpura to be constructed and sought defense land for the purpose.
Similarly, poor people were aspiring to land pattas at Secunderabad Cantonment Board limits. If the same was allocated, a project of double bedroom housing could be taken up in the city, he said.
Inaugurating 126 double-bedroom houses at Lambada Thanda in Baghlingampally, the Minister said that if they allocated or sold their houses for sale, the government would cancel the beneficiaries’ pattas.
‘The government would cancel the pattas if the recipients plan to rent out or sell the homes. On each home, the State Government has spent almost Rs.9 lakh and the market value of the same will be about Rs.40 to 50 lakh, Rao said.
The Minister said the State Government was building, at a cost of Rs.9714 crore, one lakh double bedroom houses in the GHMC limits. He pointed out that no other state in the world has taken up such large housing projects for the poor.
The Minister also laid the groundwork for the construction of a new Domalguda Zonal office building and a model market on the Narayanguda vegetable market premises.
He also urged political parties to set aside differences in ideology and to work for the welfare of the poor.
“It is fine to compete and fight elections and emerge victorious, but in addition to development and progress, leaders should work in coordination and work for the welfare of the poor after elections,” Rao said.
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs G. Kishan Reddy said that the state government should ensure the provision of housing for the poor. Hyderabad, he said, should be made a slum-free city. (INN)
