Hyderabad: Maulana Azad National Urdu University has registered marked increase in the number of applicants seeking admissions in various disciplines.
In courses in which admissions are given on the basis of merit the number of applications has swelled to 1,819 this year as against 986 during 2016-17 academic year, indicating a whopping 85 percent jump.
Besides, there is 42 percent increase in students this year in courses where admissions are given on the basis of entrance test. The number of applications in this category was 11,435 this year as compared with 8,067 the previous year.
Prof P. Fazlur Rahman, Chairperson, Central Admission Committee, has attributed the increase in admission seeking students to two main factors. One, it has become known that MANUU has excellent faculty and two, it is offering all possible facilities to make the learning process and stay of the students easier.
The entrance based courses which appear to be becoming more popular among the applicants are D.El.Ed, B.Ed and those that come under the umbrella of polytechnic.
Prof. Rahman said that the interest shown by students in taking up research at Ph.D level is remarkable. About 1,154 researchers have applied for admission into Ph.D this academic year as compared with only 401 the previous year. In D.El.Ed the figure has touched 2,313 as compared with 1,366 last year.
The trend in demonstration of keener interest in admissions in other courses has also been touching newer records. For instance, more applications have been received for MA English, Urdu and Arabic and Political Science.
Only 30 seats each are available in MA Urdu in Hyderabad and Lucknow for which 233 students have submitted applications. The number of seats available in MA English in Hyderabad is 50 and Lucknow 30. For these seats 149 students have submitted applications.
Likewise, for MA in Arabic 40 seats have been earmarked in Hyderabad and Lucknow. About 104 students have applied for these seats. (INN)
