MANUU shows solidarity with JNU

Teachers, non-teaching staff and students of Maulana Azad Naitonal Urdu University (MANUU) expressed solidarity with Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on Monday in Hyderabad.

The MANUU fraternity took out a procession from the footsteps of Directorate of Distance Education to the main gate of the university to condemn the brutal attack on students and faculty members of JNU on Sunday night.

They marched with placards and raised slogans like “save students and teachers – save university”. The family members of staff also joined the march in large number.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Mohammad Fariyad expressed his anguish and pain on such developments taking place in universities across the country.

“It is a matter of deep concern for all students and teachers, especially, for females who are not even secured in university campuses now” said Prof. Shahida of Women Studies Dept.

Prof. Mohd. Shahid of Social Work Dept. lamented on the disturbing situation emerging in the country and the way voices of teachers and students are crushed by an organized way.

“We are raising our concern because of these public funded universities, but, we will be losing such spaces if we allow ourselves to destroy our institutions” Prof. Shahid noted.

Umer Farooq Quadri, president of MANUU Student Union, told Hyderabad Youth Mirror that going by PM Modi’s logic, Delhi Police should have identified masked goons by their clothes so far. “But they are deliberately silent. It is shameful to say the least. Proofs are in open that the goons are Modi supporters.”

Dr. Firoz Alam, Dr. Sayyed Hammad Hashmi and Mr. Moinuddin also spoke at the gathering an vehemently condemned the attacks. The gathering dispersed after singing National Anthem.
