Hyderabad: AICC Spokesperson Rajiv Shukla has alleged that the BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre was working against the interest of farmers in the country.
Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan on Monday, Rajiv Shukla said, on an average, 35 farmers are committing suicide daily across the country since BJP Government took over at the Centre. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rule has proved to be the worst ever for the agriculture sector.
He said farmers were neither getting any assistance to grow their crops nor are they getting remunerative prices for their produce. He said that the Fasal Bima Yojna was not benefitting the private companies, but not the farmers.
He said during Kharif 2016, as against the premium of Rs. 17,184 crore, farmers got only Rs. 6,808 crore for the damages that they incurred. Therefore, he said private companies earned Rs. 10,376 crore due to Central scheme while farmers continued to suffer.
Similarly, Rajiv Shukla said that other national schemes like National Food Security Mission, National Krishi Vikas Yojna, National Horticulture Mission, etc., were benefitting only a few companies and not the common people.
The AICC leader alleged that TRS Government in Telangana State too was anti-farmer.
He strongly condemned the arrest of chilli farmers for demanding remunerative prices and said hand-cuffing of accused farmers was unprecedented in the entire country. He said farmers would teach a fitting lesson to BJP and TRS Governments soon.
TPCC President N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and other senior leaders were also present. (INN)
