Modi Govt distorting history to marginalise Indira Gandhi’s contributions: Uttam

Hyderabad: Paying rich tributes to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Capt. N. Uttam Kumar Reddy accused the BJP-led NDA Government of distorting history to marginalise the contributions of Nehru-Gandhi family for the country.

Addressing the birth centenary celebrations of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi at Gandhi Bhavan on Sunday, Uttam Kumar Reddy recalled the services of Indira Gandhi for the nation and said all her decisions were filled with vision and commitment.

He said it was during Indira Gandhi’s regime that India began its journey to become a super power. She ensured welfare of poor, empowerment of weaker sections, industrial growth, food security and also dealt with country’s enemies with an iron hand.

He said today India is counted among world’s major economies primarily due to the policies introduced and implemented by Indira Gandhi. He said that the list of Indira Gandhi’s achievements was too long and her contribution in making India a powerful nation could never be forgotten.

Uttam Kumar Reddy slammed the Modi Government for distorting history so as to marginalise the role played in nation building by Nehru-Gandhi family. However, he said that the Nehru-Gandhi family would continue to rule the hearts of crores of Indians forever.

He said people of India would elect AICC Vice President as country’s Prime Minister in next elections. He asked the Congress party’s cadre to play an active role in enlightening the masses about the contributions of Nehru-Gandhi family for the nation.

The TPCC chief also informed that Indira Gandhi’s birth centenary was celebrated across Telangana State at a grand scale. He said Congress party’s flag was hoisted in more than 5,000 Gram Panchayats and over 60 municipalities across the State. Floral tributes were paid to Indira Gandhi at her statues at all places in Telangana State.

The occasion was also marked with blood donation camps, distribution of rice and sarees among poor and other welfare activities organised by the Congress leaders in all 31 districts of Telangana.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the Congress workers have also vowed to work hard to ensure election of Rahul Gandhi as country’s next Prime Minister.

Earlier, Uttam Kumar Reddy, along with other senior leaders including Rajya Sabha members KVP Ramchander Rao and M.A. Khan, ex-PCC President Ponnala Lakshmaiah, Leader of Opposition in Council Shabbir Ali, TPCC Treasurer Gudur Narayana Reddy, former ministers Danam Nagender and D. Sridhar Babu, ex-MP M. Anjan Kumar Yadav, paid floral tributes to Indira Gandhi at her statue at Necklace Road. He also hoisted the party’s flag at Gandhi Bhavan and paid floral tributes to Indira Gandhi’s portrait.

The Congress leaders had also cut a cake at Gandhi Bhavan.

The TPCC chief also inaugurated the blood donation camp organised by Youth Congress at Gandhi Bhavan. He also participated in the meeting organised by National Solidarity Committee at Prakasam Hall.

Grand celebrations of birth centenary of Indira Gandhi were also organised at all DCC offices across the Telangana State which were attended by TPCC Working President Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, ex-MP Ponnam Prabhakar, ex-minister Sunitha Lakshma Reddy and other leaders. (INN)
