Hyderabad: The first phase of health camps organised by Hyderabad City Congress Committee (HCCC) Minorities Department Chairman Sameer Waliullah and TPCC Spokesperson Syed Nizamuddin, in association with Healthier Hearts Foundation concluded on Sunday.
More than 1,000 poor patients underwent free health check-up at the camp held in Rasoolpura, Begumpet on Sunday.
TPCC Minorities Department Chairman Shaik Abdullah Sohail, Sajid Shareef and other senior leaders visited the health camp. Sameer Waliullah informed that the health camp at Rasoolpura was a huge success with more than 1,000 people availing the benefit.
They underwent medical tests including ECG, 2D Echo, Blood Tests, Sugar GRBS, BP, etc., and were also given prescribed medicines at free of cost. General physicians and specialists, including cardiologists, were available in the camp. He said similar services were extended at health camps held at First Lancer on September 26 and in Golconda on September 29.
TPCC Spokesperson said that the health camps provided an opportunity to understand the gravity of health crisis in the city and identify the medical needs of the people. He said the turnout at all three health camps have exposed the hollow claims of State Government of situation being normal.
He said people living in slum areas were suffering due to lack of access to basic medical needs. Poor people could not afford to pay for simple tests and therefore, they were forced to ignore their health.
He said that many areas in the city were neither having Primary Urban Health Centres nor Basti Dawakhanas. He advised Health Minister Etala Rajender to visit slum areas and directly interact with the local residents to understand their needs.
Meanwhile, Sameer Waliullah thanked the Healthier Hearts, doctors, para-medical staff and Congress workers and leaders for the cooperation they extended in the successful conduct of three health camps. He said similar camps would be held in many other slum areas in the city and the schedule would be announced very soon. (INN)
