Addressing a function at Gandhi Bhavan on the occasion of former MP M. Anjan Kumar Yadav taking charge as president of Hyderabad District Congress Committee on Sunday, Jaipal Reddy said that the Centre was not controlling the petrol and diesel prices to benefit some oil firms.
Stating that during his tenure as the Petroleum Minister in the previous UPA Government, the fuel prices were kept under complete control.
However, he said despite fall in global prices of crude oil, BJP Government was not extending the benefit to the common man.
Jaipal Reddy said that the Union and State Governments were imposing Excise and other taxes leading to increase in fuel prices. He accused Prime Minister Narender Modi of burdening common people with unnecessary taxes and called him a ‘tax terrorist’.
The Congress leader said parties like Akali Dal and Shiv Sena have been opposing Excise Taxes on petroleum products despite being part of NDA.
However, he said Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao has been silent on the issue due to his secret loyalty to BJP. He said KCR both loves and fears Modi and compared KCR-Modi’s friendship as ‘illicit relationship’.
Jaipal Reddy expressed confidence that the Congress party would return to power in both Telangana and at the Centre in next elections.
He said as the then Union Minister for Urban Development had he had sanctioned Hyderabad Metro Rail Project and also sanctioned Rs. 4,000 crore. He said the previous Congress Government had sanctioned projects worth thousands of crores for Hyderabad. However, he said the growth of Hyderabad has come to a halt after TRS came to power.
TPCC President Uttam Kumar Reddy, in is speech, stressed on strengthening the organisation of Congress party in Hyderabad city. He also announced that the Congress would contest from all seats in the Old City and there would be alliance with the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen.
He said that the TRS Government has failed to fulfil the promises that it made with the people during GHMC elections.
Anjan Kumar Yadav thanked Congress president Rahul Gandhi and Uttam Kumar Reddy for his appointment. He said he would form all division committees within 15 days. He hoped that the Congress party would win all seats in Hyderabad in next elections.
Senior leaders including CLP leader K. Jana Reddy, TPCC Working President Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and other senior leaders were also present. (INN)
