Hyderabad: President of India Pranab Mukherjee will be the Chief Guest at the Sixth Convocation of Maulana Azad National Urdu University on December 26 where about 48,000 students will be awarded degrees.
Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan will be the Guest of Honour at the event that would be presided over by MANUU Chancellor Zafar Younus Sareshwala. Deputy Chief Minister Mohammad Mahmood Ali will be the other Guest of Honour.
Internationally known film personality Shah Rukh Khan and Urdu aficionado and founder of Rekhta Foundation Rajiv Saraf would be given Honorius Causa for their extraordinary contribution in the promotion of Urdu language and culture.
The University which was established in 1998 in Hyderabad has since honoured well known personalities such as Raj Bahadur Goud, Saiyid Hamid, Prof. Aqlaq ur Rahman Qidwai, Prof. Shams ur Rahman Farooqui, Dilip Kumar, Dr. Abid Hussain, Prof. Gopichand Narang, Dr Jeelani Banu, Gulzar, Justice (Rtd)A M Ahmadi, Prof. Sukhadev Thorat, Prof. Shameem Jairajpuri, Justice (Rtd) Rajendra Sachar, and Amir Khan with the Doctor of Letters degrees.
About 2,885 graduates and post graduates and 276 M. Phil and Ph.D from various disciplines in regular courses will be awarded degrees. At the same time 44,235 graduates and post graduates from the distance mode would also be given degrees in absentia. (INN)
