Rs 1000 Cr for development of missing and link roads in GHMC

Hyderabad: Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development KT Rama Rao said that the construction of more than 137 missing and interconnected roads under the GHMC had been completed at the cost of Rs 1000 crore.

The construction of these roads takes place within the framework of Hyderabad Road Development Corporation Ltd (HRDCL), an agency founded to take care of the development of roads in the Capital Region.

Responding to a collection of questions on road links during Question Hour at the Legislative Council here on Monday, the Minister said that 21 of the road link works covering a distance of 28,76 kilometres have been completed at a cost of 210 crores and the remainder will be completed within two years.

“In total we’ve launched four separate programmes over the last six years. The Extensive Road Maintenance Program (CRMP) offered 709 kilometres of road for maintenance to private companies. The Rs 1800 crore programme will run for five years, “he said.

In addition to HRDCL, a routine road maintenance programme is also underway, although several mega projects such as Skyways need clearance from the centre, he said. “We’ve planned two Skyways, one on Rajiv Rahadari and the other on Nagpur Lane. Both require the Centre’s clearance. We’ve been waiting for 100 acres of cantonment land for five years, “he said.

He added that while the Stet government is widening roads and adding more linking roads to the district, the Defense Ministry is shutting down roads that pass through the cantonment areas.

He urged the representatives of the BJP in the Council and Assembly to exercise their power and obtain permission from the central government.

He added that IDPL-Dilsukhnagar, Kaitalapur ROB, Hitech City RUB, Kukatpally-Gachibowli connect, Anandbagh RUB and Tukaram Gate RUB are in different stages. He also told members that sign boards will be put up on all road links to increase awareness for road users. (INN)
