Hyderabad: The Voter List Discrepancies case, filed by Congress senior leader Marri Shashidhar Reddy, was heard briefly by the Supreme Court on Thursday.
Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi said that the case would not be closed till the end and it can now be said very authoritatively that for the first time in the history of the country a court monitored revision of the voters list is taking place in Telangana. The next hearing will be on 8th November.
Counsel for Election Commission of India said that the petitioner was filing several affidavits with material paper running into thousands of pages and EC officials are stressed out to respond.
The CJ said that the petitioner was doing his duty and pointing out the discrepancies in the voters list and the EC has to respond.
The counsel for EC was told “We will tell you, be a good boy and do your Job”. Purity of voters list is important and so answer all the queries of the Petitioner.
“We in the process of gathering more information to file additional affidavits before the next hearing. EC has been turning a blind eye to our repeated representations and hence this fight.
It is not just for the Congress party but for everyone. It is to protect the constitutional right of citizens to vote. This is an effort to save democracy,” said Shashidhar Reddy. (INN)
