Hyderabad: South Central Railway (SCR) General Manager Gajanan Mallya flagged off the 100th WAP7 series Electric Locomotive at at Electrical Loco Shed (ELS), Lallaguda here on Saturday.
Principal Chief Electrical Engineer A.A. Phadke, Electrical Locomotive Engineer Gopinath MaIlya and other officers from Head Quarters and Secunderabad Division were present on the occasion.
Loco No.37085aWAP7 series loco was manufactured at Diesel Locomotive Works, Varanasi. It is the 100th Electrical Locomotive of WAP7 series homed at ELS, Lallaguda named as ‘Shatashv”. These locos are mainly used for hauling trains like Rajadhani, Shatabdi and other important express trains.
These WAP7 series engines are modern locos with three phase drive and are having the capability of regenerative braking, high horse power with maximum speed of 140 KMPH. These locomotives haul longer trains without loss of time with less maintenance.
Electric Loco Shed, Lalleguda which was established in the year 1995 is the only shed on South Central Railway which undertakes maintainance of WAP7 series locos. This shed holds total 234 locos which include 100 Nos of WAP7locos,109 Nos of WAG9 locos and 25 Nos of WAP4 locos.
Earlier, Gajanan Mallya under took extensive inspection of Signal and Telecommunication Workshop, Mettuguda accompanied by Vinay Mohan Shrivastava, Principal Chief Signal & Telecommunications Engineer and Sita Rama Prasad, Divisional Railway Manager, Hyderabad Division.
Later, General Manager also conducted detailed inspection of Engineering Workshop, Lallaguda and Flash Butt Welding Plant, Moula Ali. He was accompanied by K.Siva Prasad, Principal Chief Engineer and other officials during the inspection. (INN)
