Stop harassing Congress workers, Sravan tells DGP

Hyderabad: Led by Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Chief Spokesperson Dr. Sravan Dasoju, a delegation of Congress leaders met DGP Mehender Reddy on Friday complaining of unnecessary police harassment to Congress leaders and workers.

Besides Sravan, M. Kodanda Reddy, Kuna Srisailam Goud, Pavan Kumar Reddy and senior leaders were part of the delegation.

The Congress leaders urged the DGP to give directions to police officials to stop harassing the party leaders. Speaking to media persons later, Sravan alleged that immediately after dissolution of Assembly, caretaker Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao, in connivance with some senior police officials,

started targeting the Congress leaders and cadre. He said KCR wanted to terrorise the Congress cadre so as to influence the next elections.

Sravan pointed out ex-MLA T. Jayaprakash Reddy alias Jagga Reddy was arrested in a fake case of human trafficking. Similarly, another ex-MLA Gandra Venkatarama Reddy and his brother G. Gopal Reddy were implicated in a fake case of keeping illegal weapons.

A fake case was booked against Kodangal’s ex-MLA A. Revanth Reddy in Jubilee Hills Society land scam. One more former MLA Srisailam Goud was implicated in a fake case under SC, ST Atrocities Act.

Instead of following the guidelines of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), it seems that the police are following the guidelines being dictated by KCR.

The Congress leader alleged that old and even dead cases were being revived only to harass the Congress leaders. He said Congress workers across the State were being threatened by the local police officials that they would be booked in fake cases or their old cases would be re-opened.

He said all this was being done at the instance of caretaker CM KCR.

Sravan told Mahender Reddy that as the Director General of Police it was his duty to protect democracy. However, by aligning with the TRS to selective target Congress party, he said some police officials were putting the entire democracy in danger.

He asked the DGP to direct his sub-ordinates to act only as per law and not as per the directions of any political bosses.

The Congress leader feared that the series of cases against Congress leaders clearly indicate that the TRS wants to create an atmosphere of fear and terror before next elections. He said if these continues prevail, then a free and fair elections would not be possible.

He insisted that the DGP must take immediate measures to ensure that next Assembly elections are held in a peaceful and democratic manner.

He alleged that in order to manipulate the next elections, a few officials of Telangana Police have colluded with TRS leaders and are indulging in threatening, blackmailing and filing unlawful cases against the leaders and cadre of Congress party.

He said some police officials were acting as puppets in the hands of caretaker CM and ruling TRS party. He expressed fear that if these unlawful acts of police continue, then people would lose faith in democracy.

Sravan demanded that all the recent police transfers should be cancelled. He said those transfers were done according to the whims and fancies of ruling party MLAs to indulge in electoral manipulations.

He also condemned the brutal arrest of Prof Haragopal and others who were democratically protesting for the effective implementation of Right to Education Act.

He also informed that the Congress party would lodged a complaint regarding the unlawful acts of police to Chief Electoral Officer of Telangana and also the Chief Election Commissioner of India. (INN)
