Hyderabad: Telangana Government on Monday announced that it would implement the lockdown in a stringent manner under the Epidemic Act 1897 for the prevention of Coronavirus in the State. People would not be allowed to move freely on the roads from 7 pm to 6 am during the lockdown period.
Addressing a press conference, Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar and DGP Mahender Reddy explained various steps being taken to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.
They said the lockdown would be in effect till March 31 and except for emergency services no other establishments would be allowed to run.
They warned of stringent action against those selling the essential commodities at higher prices. They said black marketing and hoarding of essential items would be dealt with stern measures.
As announced by Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao, all inter-State borders have been closed and plying of RTC buses, private vehicles, auto-rickshaws and cabs have been banned.
They said assembling of more than five people has been strictly prohibited. They said all provisions of GO MS No. 45 would be strictly implemented.
They appealed to the people who have returned from foreign countries since March 1 to voluntarily approach the authorities on immediate basis. Else, they said stringent action would be taken against them including action against their passport.
The DGP appealed to the people to maintain discipline till March 31 and ensure total lockdown. He said all Range IGs, DIGs, Police Commissioners and SPs have been directed to strictly enforce the lockdown. He said criminal cases would be booked against those who violate the regulations.
