Telangana Tribal, Social Welfare Society students secure top All India Ranks in NEET

Hyderabad: In the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) UG 2020, a total of 190 students, including 142 social and 48 tribal welfare residential students, have secured top all-India rankings in the SC / ST categories.

These top rankers are first generation learners from Telangana Social and Tribal Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Societies and are children of beedi workers, small farmers, agricultural workers, roadside tea sellers, vegetable vendors, mechanics, cooks, masons and others struggling to reach both ends day in and day out.

The tales of DejavathGirija, a labourer ‘s daughter, Nikitha, a beedi worker ‘s daughter, Amulya Devi, a bike mechanic ‘s daughter, and Nikshiptha, brought up by a single parent, are all touching, identical, and all chances of making it to the medical stream this year are overcome by them.

Less than five students from these societies used to gain seats in medical colleges every year in the former Andhra Pradesh.

Since 2015, the companies have been operating the Operation Blue Crystal programme for SC students and Operation Emerald for ST students to provide free top-class NEET coaching free of charge for meritorious students. These two programmes have been a boon to students who are disadvantaged.

Girija, originating from a small tribal hamlet in the district of Wanaparthy, obtained 85th rank in the ST group for all India and is likely to be admitted to the AIIMS.

“Congratulating the top rankers, Secretary Dr. RS Praveen Kumar of TSWREIS and TTWREIS said,” The achievement of these students from families affected by poverty means a lot to their families in overcoming generations of deprivation and growth.

Last year, 108 students from these societies from SC / ST broke the NEET and were admitted to medical and dental colleges. IT Minister KT Rama Rao also on Saturday complemented these successful students and societies on their achievement.

“Hats off to all the teachers and students for the historic results in NEET (UG) this year. In 2012 -13 we got just 3 MBBS seats! And now more than 100! What a mega transformation!,” TSWREIS and TTWREIS Dr. RS Praveen Kumar tweeted, thanking Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, Social Welfare Minister Koppula Eshwar and KT Rama Rao.Responding to the tweet, the IT Minister tweeted “My compliments, Praveen garu” (INN)
