There are thousands of jobs in Nondestructive Testing (NDT) for engineers across India, informed a team of experts at NDE 2015 Expo held at Hyderabad International Convention Center (HICC).
Briefing media persons at the concluding session of the exhibition, the experts including Defence Research & Development Laboratory (DRDL) director Dr. K. Jayaraman said that thousands of skilled resources are needed in NDT soon as it is being applied in various industries and sectors.
While referring to the Telangana government’s plans to bring aerospace manufacturing hubs in the state and the Center’s Make in India, Dr. Jayaraman said that the NDT would be a major player not only in aerospace industry which uses high end products but also in every industry including healthcare.
The industry was valued over 3 billion in 2013 and could reach to more than 8 billion by 2020, said DRDL Project Director J.R. Joshi quoting a published study. When asked how such a huge skilled workers demand in NDT will be met, Mr. Joshi said Indian Society for Nondestructive Testing (ISNT) has a plan.
He said that the ISNT would conduct certificate courses for engineering graduates from mechanical, metallurgy, aeronautical and electronics streams. He added that the engineers will be trained on the NDT technologies and its usage.
Mr. Joshi also said that the ISNT has already entered into memorandum of understandings (MoUs) with different institutions and universities across India. He noted that the orientation programs on NDT in Telangana would be conducted in association with Telangana Academy of Skill and Knowledge (TASK).
As many as 70 exhibitors have displayed their technologies at the expo, which saw nearly 10,000 visitors between November 25 to 28, informed ISNT Hyderabad Chapter chairman P. Mohan.

#What is NDT?
“Nondestructive testing (NDT) is the process of inspecting, testing, or evaluating materials, components or assemblies for discontinuities, or differences in characteristics without destroying the serviceability of the part or system. In other words, when the inspection or test is completed the part can still be used.” according to asnt.org.
