Hyderabad: The tower density of Telangana is 0.71 per thousand population against a national average of 0.42 lakh, Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar said on Wednesday while chairing the State Broadband Committee’s second meeting.
The tower density target of 1.7 by 2024 has been set by the National Broadband mission.
Kumar told the Government that it is committed to the fiberisation of Base Station Towers (BTS) and that it is extending the required support to boost the State’s connectivity coverage.
The State currently has 35 percent of BTS fiberisation and will meet the 70 per cent target set by the National Broadband Mission. The chief secretary promised members of the departments of electricity and Panchayat Raj to solve the problems.
At present, Telangana has 24,961 towers and 34,902 towers are the balance target. For 109 sites pending for the construction of towers, appropriate approvals will be given. Special attention will be paid to 140 uncovered gram panchayats by the government, Kumar said.
Principal Secretaries Sunil Sharma (Transport) and Jayesh Ranjan (ITEC), DOT-LSA Unit Advisor J.V.Raja Reddy and other senior officials attended the meeting. (INN)
