Transparency and Urdu material production are milestones of MANUU: VC

Hyderabad: Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) took a huge leap in transparency and production of academic books in Urdu during last four years, said Vice Chancellor Dr. Mohammad Aslam Parvaiz at a press conference in University Guest House on Saturday.

Presenting a report of MANUU’s activities between 20 October 2015 and 20 October 2019 to the press, the Vice Chancellor informed that he ensured transparency in selection of resources for teaching and other positions without giving scope for favoritism to benefit the University.

Further, he said that transparency was brought in examination allowing students to check their evaluated answer scripts and raise grievances.

He briefed about the initiatives taken under his leadership, including establishment of Directorate of Translation and Publication (DTP), Centre for Promotion of Knowledge in Urdu (CPUK), two new campuses in Kadapa and Cuttack, National Cadet Corps (NCC) Unit, and revival of Centre for Urdu Culture Studies (CUCS).

The DTP published nearly 50 academic books in Urdu and many are under various stages of publication, he noted while adding that Instructional Media Centre (IMC) too has been producing material in Urdu for online learners on a daily basis.

Recalling his experience in MANUU, the Vice Chancellor said that he initially found lack of Urdu culture in the University and tried to develop it over these four years. He added that the student-centric approach in functioning of the University was the reason why he centralized student services through online system.

Responding to questions of the press, the Vice Chancellor told that he consistently motivated the teachers to assimilate in the University culture, contribute in preparing Urdu material and upheld the University mandate.

Despite financial constraints, the University has been trying to provide all necessary facilities to the students including sports and boarding, the Vice Chancellor remarked. He also highlighted the role of Centre for Information Technology (CIT) in offering online student services.

He made it clear that MANUU is not a place to learn urdu language, but it is an institution to link the Urdu people with higher education. University is paying special attention to develop soft skills of the students to facilitate their placements. Dr. Mohammad Aslam Parvaiz, responding to a query said that he wanted to introduce Unani medicine course at MANUU with a hospital and build a big auditorium in the campus

The press conference was attended by Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Ayub Khan, Registrar Prof. S.M. Rahmatullah, Proctor and Dean, Alumni Prof. Abul Kalam, IMC Director Mr. Rizwan Ahamd, CUCS chief consultant Anis Azmi and CPUK consultant Dr. Abid Moiz.
