TRS Govt is causing huge damage to environment: Uttam

Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President Capt. N. Uttam Kumar Reddy has accused the TRS Government of causing huge damage to environment.

Addressing a meeting organised by TPCC Kisan Cell Department with environmental experts at Gandhi Bhavan on Friday, Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the Congress party was not against irrigation projects or other developmental schemes.

However, he said that the TRS Government was not taking up works without taking required mandatory environmental clearances from the authorities concerned. He said no environmental clearances were taken for Kaleshwaram Project, Pharma City in Ranga Reddy district or other projects.

He said by allowing unscientific works, the present government has caused damaged to forests and tanks while submerging existing villages. He asked as to why Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao was not willing to follow existing laws and rules in executing projects.

He said that the Congress party would not allow the government to suppress people’s rights and view and there would be no compromise on environmental protection.

The TPCC chief wanted the experts to make representation to the Parliament’s Standing Committee on Environment on violations being done by TRS Government.

The meeting was attended by Rajya Sabha MP Renuka Chowdhary, Kisan Cell chairman Kodanda Reddy and other leaders.

Meanwhile, over 500 leaders and workers of TDP and YSRCP from Ranga Reddy and Yella Reddy joined the Congress party on Friday. Welcoming them into the party fold, Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the Congress party was all set to come to power in 2019 elections.

He said no section of the society was happy with the TRS Government for its failure to fulfil the electoral promises. He said many more leaders and workers from other parties, including TRS, would join the Congress party soon.

Leader of Opposition in Council Shabbir Ali, Ranga Reddy DCC President Kayam Mallesh and other senior leaders were also present on the occasion. (INN)
