Hyderabad: MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi has accused the State Government of neglecting “real Telanganites” in supplying drinking water.
Speaking in the State Legislative Assembly during Question Hour on Thursday, Akbaruddin Owaisi alleged that the “real Telanganites” who are living in the Old City of Hyderabad were being discriminated in supply of drinking water while the supply was proper in areas inhabited by those hailing from Andhra region.
He said despite formation of Telangana State, local residents were facing the problem of drinking water.
The MIM MLA said that the government has failed to replace the water and drainage pipelines in the Old City which were laid during the reign of Nizam.
He said nearly 9 million gallon of water was going waste on daily basis due to leakages. At an average of 150 gallon, this water could be supplied to 60,000 households if leakages are plugged.
Akbaruddin Owaisi sad that drinking water could be stored in Himayat Sagar and Osman Sagar under Krishna Phase – IV and by starting a new line from Akampally, drinking water could be provided to the city.
He said irrespective of availability of water in Himayat Sagar and Osman Sagar, water was not being supplied to the Old City areas.
He said several areas in Charminar and Chandrayangutta constituencies were not getting adequate supply of drinking water.
He said of eight water tanks which were sanctioned for the Old City, not even one tank has been completed.
He said that the government had procured a loan of Rs. 1900 crore to supply drinking water on city’s outskirts. But no steps were taken to improve the conditions in the Old City.
The MIM leader said of Rs. 2,000 crore package announced for the Old City, only Rs. 900 crore were spent. (INN)
