Hyderabad: Right to express dissent is essential for nurturing creative skills as well as to safeguard democracy.
These views were expressed today at the inaugural session of the workshop on ‘Urdu Creative Writing for Children’ organized by the Centre for Urdu Culture Studies, Maulana Azad National Urdu University.
Dr. Mohammad Aslam Parvaiz, Vice-Chancellor while inaugurating the workshop stressed the need for free thinking for the sake of creativity. This is essential too for the survival of humanity, he remarked. Dissent does not necessarily lead to hatred rather it should be used to unite people and to remove misunderstandings.
He also said that it is necessary to decide the extent of use of science and technology. Video games and gadgets are narrowing the minds of students, he remarked. They need to observe their surroundings to better understand and express themselves.
Ms. Manisha Chaudhry, Resource Person from Delhi said that the stories and poems read in childhood remain with us for the whole life. Study of good literature helps in becoming a good human being. Ms. Poonam Girdhani, noted theatre personality from Delhi, said that we cannot live by cutting off ourselves from the past.
We need to express our dreams with the help of writing, she said. Dr. M.A. Sikandar, Registrar, described language as essential part of culture.
