Congress to hold state wide protest on demonisation anniversary on Nov 8

Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President Capt. N. Uttam Kumar Reddy has directed his party leaders and workers to organise state wide protests on November 8 to mark the first anniversary of demonitisation.

Addressing a meeting of senior Congress leaders held at Gandhi Bhavan on Saturday, Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre had imposed a unilateral and dictatorial decision of demonitising currency notes of higher denomination on November 8 last year.

The decision had badly hit the small traders, daily wage earners, salaries class and almost all sections of the society. He said the decision not only crippled the economy, but also resulted in loss of lakhs of jobs across the country. He said people were yet to recover from the negative impact of demonitisation.

As part of the decision taken by the All India Congress Committee to hold nationwide protest, he said that the TPCC would organise protests across the Telangana State on November 8. He directed the DCC presidents to convene meetings in their respective districts on November 6 and decide on the mode of protest.

Uttam Kumar Reddy also directed the party cadre to organise flag hoisting programme in all villages of Telangana on November 19 on the occasion of birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

He also informed that AICC Vice-President Rahul Gandhi might visit Telangana on November 20 and address a massive public meeting in Warangal.

The meeting was also attended by AICC Telangana Incharge Secretary R.C. Khuntia, TPCC Working President Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, CLP leader K. Jana Reddy, Opposition Leader in Council Shabbir Ali, PAC Chairman Dr. J. Geetha Reddy, AICC Secretary V. Hanumantha Rao, former union ministers Sarve Satyanarayana and Balram Naik, ex-MPs Ponnam Prabhakar, M. Anjan Kumar Yadav and Dr. Mallu Ravi, former ministers Sabitha Indira Reddy and Sunitha Lakshma Reddy and other leaders.

Speaking on the occasion, Khuntia said that the demonitisation had proved to be a major blow on poor citizens by Modi Government. He said more than 200 innocent people died while standing in bank queues to withdraw their own money.

He said Modi Government has failed to curtail black money or other irregularities through note ban as the Prime Minister had claimed while imposing the decision. Instead, he said the decision has benefitted only a few industrialists and people who were close to BJP’s top leadership. He said that the decision has also hit the country’s GDP growth. (INN)
