Cinematheque MANUU Launched with Iranian Films

Hyderabad: Maulana Azad National Urdu University’s Instructional Media Centre has launched its cinema Club “Cinematheque MANUU” today with the inauguration of Iranian Film Festival.

Dr. Mohammad Aslam Parvaiz, Vice-Chancellor declared open the Cinematheque MANUU aimed at over all development of University Students. He described Persian as the dress of Urdu language and lauded the selection of Iranian films to launch the enrichment programme.

The glittering inaugural function was held at CPDUMT Auditorium. Festival is being organized in collaboration with The Iran Culture House, New Delhi.

Mr. Ali Asghar Rastgou, I st Consul, Consulate General Iran, Chief Guest, in his speech called the festival as a step forward to strengthen the traditional cultural ties between India and Iran. Mr. Mohsen Ashouri, Cultural Attache, Iran, was the Guest of Honour.

He presented an overview of Iranian Films and said that they contain messages aimed at reforming the society.
Mr. Rizwan Ahmad, Directer Media Centre in his welcome address, stressed the need to promote academic discourse on Cinema in the campuses.

He described the launching of Cinematheque as historical step in the nascent institution. Mr. Imtiaz Alam, Research Officer, conducted the proceedings. Mr. Omar Azmi, Producer, proposed vote of thanks.

Earlier Dr. Aslam Parvaiz inaugurated an exhibition of Iranian Handicrafts and Paintings by Mahmood Farshchian at IMC Atrium. Later the opening film of the festival “A cube of sugar” directed by Reza Mir Karimi was screened. Four day festival will end on 3 rd November.
