Congress leaders pay tributes to Rajiv Gandhi on death anniversary

Hyderabad: Congress leaders paid rich tributes to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 28th death anniversary on Tuesday.

TPCC President Capt. N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, MLC T. Jeevan Reddy, former PCC presidents V. Hanumantha Rao and Ponnala Lakshmaiah, former minister Mohammed Ali Shabbir, OBC Cell chairman K. Venkat Swamy paid floral tributes to Rajiv Gandhi at his statue at Begumpet.

Speaking on the occasion, Uttam Kumar Reddy said that Rajiv Gandhi brought Information Technology and Communications revolutions in India and he also empowered rural India through Panchayat Raj institutions. He said Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated in a suicide bomb attack by LTTE.

He said it was highly regrettable that Prime Minister Narender Modi used derogatory and offensive language against the former Prime Minister who has laid down his life for the country 28 years ago.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the Exit Poll figures were unreliable and the Congress party was confident of winning the Lok Sabha elections. He said that the Congress would win a sizeable number of seats in Telangana State.

Later, the Congress leaders also paid tributes to Rajiv Gandhi by garlanding his portrait in Gandhi Bhavan. A meeting was also organised by National Solidarity Committee at Prakasam Hall in Gandhi Bhavan to pay tributes to Rajiv Gandhi. (INN)
