‘Gandhiji aur Champaran’ play staged by MANUU students

Hyderabad: To commemorate 150 th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi a drama ‘Gandhiji aur Champaran’, was presented by MANUU Drama Club Yesterday evening at Maulana Azad National Urdu University, DDE Auditorium.

The drama, based on Gandhiji’s Champaran Satyagraha, was written by eminent theatre personality, Mr. Anis Azmi, Chief Consutant, Centre for Urdu Culture Studies (CUCS). Prof. Ayub Khan, Pro Vice-Chancellor, MANUU while addressing the audience after the play said that, the drama highlighted the historical facets of Champaran Satyagraha, which most of us are unaware of.

Champaran Satyagraha is an important turning point in the freedom struggle which gave a new direction to the struggle, he said. Prof. Mohd. Zafaruddin, Director, Centre, praised the students for showing interest in cultural
activities along with their studies.

He appreciated the members of MANUU Drama club for presenting plays on unique & different themes. This was their fifth play. The play was directed by a Student from Dept. of Mass Communication & Journalism, Mr. Naushad under the guidance of Mr. Meraj Ahmad, Assistant Professor.

The students who acted in the drama had earlier participated in the theater workshops organized by Center for Urdu Studies.

Mohammed Ali Hassan Raza played the role of Mahatma Gandhi with sublime ease, where as Abdul Qadir, Misbah Zafar and Sana Naghma were the narrators. Sohail, Mohammad Sajid Ahmed, Kamran Khan, Abu Sufyan Sajid, Zamir Hassan, Noor Mujassim, Mohammad Nadeem Alam, Mujahid ul Islam, Mohammed Fahim, Ayesha, Mustafiz, Mohammad Shahzan, Abu Ghufran, Mohammad Shahbaz Khan, Ashhar Yaser, Mohammad Imran Ahmed, Maheem Qamar and Nazish Raza performed different roles. Tariq Khan, Nafis Alam, Syed Mazharuddin, Imran Hussain, Taib Hussain, Mohammad Aqib Khan, Nazima Iram, Syed Danish and Alia Kausar were part of the production team.

Dr. Firoz Alam, Assistant Professor, Cultural Centre welcomed the gathering & introduced the theme. Prof. Mohd. Zafaruddin proposed vote of thanks. Mr. Habeeb Ahmed, Museum Curator & Mr. Zubair Ahmed, Semi Professional Assistant supervised the arrangements.
