Koppula Eshwar unveils Louis Braille’s statue

Hyderabad: Welfare Minister Koppula Eshwar unveiled the 9-feet bronze statue of Louis Braille at the Disabled Persons Cooperative office, Malakpet in Hyderabad commemorating Braille’s birth anniversary on Wednesday.

The Minister said that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao was spending crores of rupees for the welfare of disabled persons with a humane touch. He said that Louis Braille was the person who gave literacy to the blind by giving them a script. He said that Braille defeated blindness with courage and self-confidence and became a role model for blind persons across the world by introducing the Braille script.

Koppula Eshwar said that Telangana state was spending Rs 2,000 crore for 5.51 lakh disabled persons. He said that disabled persons were getting an honorarium with a 100 per cent subsidy. He said that the state government increased the budget allocation for the welfare of Disabled Persons from Rs 20 crores to Rs 83 crores. (INN)
