TD leaders stage protest against TS irrigation pact, held

Hyderabad: Telangana Telugu Desam demanded that the State Government immediately scrap the irrigation pact it entered with the Maharashtra government.

TDP leaders L. Ramana and A. Revanth Reddy on Monday termed the agreement as gross injustice to the state saying that the TRS government has mortgaged the interests of the state with the Maharashtra government.

The TD leaders organized a rally from the NTR Trust Bhavan to Jal Soudha to protest the irrigation agreement by the two states.

Speaking to media persons, Ramana said that the TDP was against the agreement since it was not in the interests of the state government.

TDP will organize protests in a phased manner to mount pressure on the state government. Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao should lead an all party delegation to the Centre on the issue, he demanded.

He said that TDP, along with BJP, would protest the irrigation project agreement as it was detrimental for Telangana.

As soon as the TD leaders and activists reached Jala Soudha, police arrested Ramana, Revanth Reddy along with their supporters and bundled them into the police vans stationed at the place.

Massive traffic jam was witnessed near the Lakdi-ka-pul area due to the protest and the subsequent arrests of the protestors. (INN)
