Our Kohinoor Diamond, Our Pride – Achche Din

Ah! That beautiful diamond. The Kohinoor! This diamond is worth millions of dollars. I’m ain’t funny. Whether you call it Koh-i-Noor (Mountain of Light) or Kohinoor, it can surely brighten lives of millions of poor Indians. If only it’s brought back.

As any Indian citizen, I too want to see the Kohinoor diamond back in my country. I wish for that ‘Achche Din’, as promised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It’s not just a diamond. It’s a pride for English Monarch since many decades.

Mined at Kollur Mine in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, the diamond is currently in the possession of Queen Elizabeth II of Britain. When asked about returning the diamond, Prime Minister of the UK David Cameron said: “They’re not having that back”.

The Kohinoor was once placed into the ornate Peacock Throne of Shah Jahan, the fifth Mughal emperor who build world famous Taj Mahal.
