Ox Seizure Ahead of Bakrid: MIM leaders complain to Telangana DGP

A delegation of All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen (AIMIM or MIM) met Telangana DGP Anurag Sharma and complained about harassment of livestock traders by local police.

MIM leaders led by Charminar MLA Syed Ahmed Pasha Quadri also reported seizure of animals on the eve of Bakrid in Hyderabad, Cyberabad and other parts of Telangana by police and municipal officials.

“The overzealous officials are imposing huge fines, registering FIRs, arresting the persons, confiscating mobile phones, and seizing and sending the animals to the gau-shalas,” the leaders said in a letter submitted to the DGP.

The MIM leaders informed the DGP in the letter that police officials cannot act as Gau Rakshaks in uniform or substitute for the Gau-Rakshaks of Sangh Parivar.

In this backdrop, they urged IPS Anurag Sharma to issue clear and specific instructions to Hyderabad, Cyberabad and other commissioners and Superintendents of Police of districts to not prevent transport of cattle (oxen and buffaloes) ahead of Bakrid.

The MIM leaders also requested the DGP to specifically direct police officials manning at check posts not to harass the traders/transporters of cattle and book cases or seize their cattle.
