Swachh Mission yields good results on SCR

Hyderabad: The nine-day long Swachhta Saptah under the Swachh Rail-Swachh Bharat Mission carried out from September 17 to 25 yielded good results on South Central Railway.

With participation of employees, officers and other voluntary organisations the cleanliness drive concluded with impressive result.

This special outreach programme was intended to spread wider awareness on sanitation and cleanliness in rail premises and make hygiene a habit amongst the travelling public.

South Central Railway General Manager Ravindra Gupta, Addl. General Manager A.K. Gupta, Principal Heads of Departments from Head Quarters Rail Nilayam, Divisional Railway Managers of all six Divisions viz.

Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Guntur, Guntakal, Nanded and all the Branch Officers have energetically participated in the cleanliness drives took place at several stations and in trains.

During these various drives a total of 6424 passengers (on platforms) and 2019 passengers (in trains) were interacted personally by various officials regarding cleanliness and hygiene.

A total of 6232 persons were penalized under anti-littering drive and fine to the tune of Rs12.46 lakhs were collected as penalties. In order to ensure proper segregation of garbage at stations,

As many as 2,477 dust bins were provided at platforms of various stations. A total of 2,308 water samples from various points were taken and tested for residual chlorine.

Total 64 samples found not meeting the norms and corrective action was taken to improve the quality of water. Similarly a total water samples have been sent for bacteriological examination and results awaited.

Various awareness activities like nukkad nataks, cleanliness drives, display of posters and banners were held at the station and in trains.

The message sustained “Clean Station and Clean Trains” was sent loud and clear to the travelling public. Anti-littering slogans were also posted at various locations besides, use of dustbins and role of passengers in filling them was also undertaken through Role Plays.

A drive on garbage handling and disposal was also undertaken at railway stations, trains and depots. Tree plantation programmes were also held at various places, according to a press release. (INN)
