Health minister Laxma Reddy inaugurates medical college in Vikarabad

Health minister Laxma Reddy inaugurated a new medical college ‘Mahavir Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS)’ in Vikarabad, Telangana State on Wednesday.

Spread across an sprawling campus of over 37 acres with lush green environs at Shivareddy Pet, the medical college cum general hospital has ultramodern amenities from Chennai’s Vels Group of Institutions.

The MIMS, which is affiliated to the Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences in Warangal, will commence 4 1/2 year MBBS course from this academic year with an intake of 150 medical students.

Speaking on the inauguration ceremony, Laxma Reddy said Vikarabad got good fillip with it being announced as a district and with this medical college hospital, good days have come to it.

This district will benefit the maximum from all the schemes CM has announced for new districts, he said while adding that a foundation stone was recently laid for the District Government hospital and it will be functional within six months.

MIMS coming here besides benefitting the students will enormously benefit the poor of this area, they will get good medical care, the minister noted.

CM has been keen and is focussing on the government medical facilities to benefit the poor, he further said and informed that the TS govt. studied the medical services in Tamilnadu and is planning the services here such a way that it betters the Tamilnadu model.

Transport minister P Mahender Reddy said that the setting up of MIMS in this rural and underdeveloped area by Vel Group is a good gesture to help the poor. He offered complete support to MIMS to ensure that the medical college runs well.

MIMS chairman Dr Ishari K Ganesh said the prime reason for choosing Telangana was its supportive and friendly policies. He said they got permission with in 30 days.

Dr Ganesh also said that  the MIMS will offer 20% concession on fee to class toppers and will reimburse the entire fee to the course topper on completion.

The 350 bedded medical college cum hospital offers clinical and Para-clinical curriculum including general medicine, paediatrics, respiratory and chest medicine, psychiatry, dermatology, general surgery, orthopaedics, obstetrics & gynaecology, ophthalmology, ENT, Dental, pathology, microbiology, biochemistry and radio-diagnostics.
