Energy conservation is equal to energy production: SCR GM

Hyderabad: Conserving the energy is not only saving but also equal to production of energy, South Central Railway is strictly following these principles and obtaining positive results said SCR Additional GM A.K. Gupta.

Speaking at a seminar organised as part of the observance of National Energy Conservation Week on Wednesday at Rail Nilayam in Secunderabad, Gupta stated that focus is being given on the use of renewable energy sources at stations/service buildings etc.,

use of star labelled electrical equipments, LED based lighting systems, use of energy efficient Pumps, energy efficient fittings to enhance the efficiency of energy utilization on SCR.

He also wanted implementation of innovative methods and systems which would save electrical energy and contribute towards reduction of Carbon foot print to arrest climate change.

Gupta emphasised that SCR is strongly committed to the cause of energy conservation and the same has been exemplified by the fact that SCR has bagged nine prestigious National Energy Conservation Awards for the year 2016 from the Ministry of Power, Govt. of India.

The awards were recently presented by Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal at a function held at New Delhi.

SCR Chief Electrical Engineer John Thomas has implemented several new initiatives on both electric traction and non-traction areas.

On traction side guidelines have been issued on regeneration, coasting, judicious application of brakes etc. Loco pilots are advised to use Multiple Loco power only on those sections where it is required, after achieving maximum permissible speed.

All these measures have resulted in saving of 59.11 Million Units of power and Rs. 39.84 Crore during the financial year 2015-16.

Chief Electrical General Engineer S.K.Agarwal, and Chief Electrical Loco Engineer A.A. Phadke made presentations on the various energy conservation methods being implemented on South Central Railway. (INN)
