Hyderabad: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen president and Hyderabad MP Barrister Asaduddin Owaisi and four AIMIM legislators were on Thursday acquitted in a case relating to their protest over the demolition of Muthangi mosque in Medak District in the year 2005..
A criminal court in Sangareddy acquitted MLAs Akbar Uddin Owaisi (Chandrayangutta), Syed Ahmed Pasha Quadri (Charminar), Mumtaz Ahmed Khan (Yakutpura) and Mohammed Moazam Khan (Bahadurpura), besides Barrister Asaduddin Owaisi.
In this case, Asaduddin Owaisi and 21 others were charged under IPC sections 153A, 147 and 186 when they were trying to prevent government officials from demolishing a Masjid on Hyderabad-Mumbai national highway at Muttangi village near Patancheru town in Medak district. .
It may be recalled that revenue officials, along with the police contingents, had demolished three mosques and a shrine to widen the national highway.
However, when the demolition process reached the fourth mosque at Muthangi, it saw wide opposition from local Muslims and the AIMIM leaders. The situation got tense, leading to day-long protests.
On 21st January 2013 Asaduddin Owaisi had been sent to jail in connection to this case when he failed to appear before court. Later after 3 days on 24th Jan Mr. Owaisi got bail on personal bond for Rs 10.000 and two sureties
The then chief minister, late Y S Rajashekhar Reddy, ordered a probe into the matter and the AIMIM leaders were also booked at the same time.
Asaduddin Owaisi questioned Congress party which was in power at that time and tweeted ”Will Cong leaders have courtesy to apologise, as they were in power in 2005 & false case registered. They allowed masjid demolition.” (INN)
