Hyderabad: The students of University of Hyderabad on Monday commemorated the first death anniversary of Dalit research scholar Rohith Vemula as ‘Shahadath Din’ (Martyrdom Day).
The students, under the banner of Joint Action Committee, gathered at the campus and paid tributes to Rohith Vemula. HCU scholar Dontha Prashant informed that on Tuesday, a meeting would be organised to commemorate Rohith Vemula’s death anniversary.
Rohithh’s mother, Radhika Vemula, will be participating in the event proposed to be held at Velivada in UoH premises at 3.30 PM. Jaan Mohammad, whose brother Mohammad Akhlaq was lynched at Bisada village in Uttar Pradesh’s Dadri district in September 2015, Fatima Nafees, mother of missing JNU student Najeeb Ahmed and Dalits who were beaten up in Una incident are also likely to attend the event.
