Noble Laureate Prof. Kurt delivers lecture at OU

Hyderabad: Nobel Laureate Prof. Kurt Wuthrich on Friday delivered a lecture “Congratulatory Message to Osmania University at its Centenary: Reflections on my Half-Century in Science” at the Pre centenary celebrations held at Tagore Auditorium, Osmania University.

He congratulated the Osmanians on 100 years celebrations and wished that all the best in future endeavors. He said that the three dimensional structures of proteins are identified by the NMR technology.

He explained that MRI (Magnetic Resonance imaging) is useful to identify and detect the malignant body parts and save humanity from impending health hazards. He enlightened the audience on various improvements in MRI and said that a lot of research is on the anvil in this area.

Prof. Kurt Wuthrich made a power point presentation showing that he lived in the lap of Mother Nature which helped him to develop scientific temperament.

His intimacy with flora and fauna, penchant for fishing huge marlin and skiing sport has motivated him to delve deep in the realms of Science. Prof. Kurt clarified that the superiority of Science lies in its contributions to humanity.

He released the Centenary Poster “Brand Osmania” and OU Centenary Celebrations Website. Teachers, Staff and Students attended the programme in large numbers.

OU Vice-Chancellor Prof. S. Ramachandram thanked Prof. Kurt Wuthrich for visiting Osmania University. He said that the Osmania Centenary celebration will be held on a grand scale and solicited the support of teachers, students and staff.

OU Registrar Prof. Ch. Gopal Reddy, OU Centenary Celebrations special officer Prof. H. Venkateshwarlu, Principals, teachers, students and staff participated.

Later, a cultural programme of Bharata Natyam by Dr. Tejaswini Manogna enthralled the audience. (INN)
