UoH gets 11 new lifts

Hyderabad: The inauguration of second phase of lifts from the SIPDA funded grants from Dept. of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities of Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment was held in the presence of the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Appa Rao Podile on Thursday.

The lifts were inaugurated in the buildings of School of Life Sciences, College for Integrated studies, School of Mathematics, Library, School of Management Studies, Electronics block (beside CIL), School of Humanities, School of Computer and Information Sciences, School of Social Sciences, School of Chemistry, and Chemistry Annexe.

The University got a grant-in-aid of about Rs. 6 crore by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, after a disability audit was done in 2012-13.

The grant given is being utilised for installing 18 lifts in fifteen buildings on the campus. As on date 15 lifts have been inaugurated.

In April 2016 University of Hyderabad was selected for the seventh NCPEDP- Mphasis Universal Design Awards for carrying out exemplary work towards the cause of accessibility and ensuring dignity for people with disabilities, under the category of corporates and organisations. (INN)
