Harish Rao appeals Karnataka to release 15 TMC of water

Hyderabad: Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao on Tuesday appealed to the Karnataka Government to release 15 TMC of water from Almatti/Narayanpur reservoir in view of acute drinking water shortage in Telangana, especially in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad and flouride affected areas of Nalgonda district.

“Currently, the drinking water is supplied to these places through Puttamgandi under Nagarjunasagar Project. As against the normal Minimum Draw Down Level (MDDL) of 510 ft,

the current level is 500.50 ft, and we would be barely able to sustain the supply without any inflows to Nagarjunasagar,” Harish Rao said in a letter to Karnataka’s Major and Medium Irrigation Minister M.B. Patil on Tuesday.

Harish Rao urged Patil to instruct the concerned authorities to release 15 TMC of water from Narayanpur. (INN)
