TS Govt to link vehicle registration with Aadhar

Hyderabad: Transport Minister Mahender Reddy on Wednesday directed the officials to link registration and transfers of vehicles with Aadhar Cards.

Addressing a review meeting with top officials of transport and police departments at his chambers in the State Secretariat, the minister said that there were nearly 45 lakh vehicles in the State and the ownership of most of the vehicles changes at least 2-3 times.

However, he said that new owners were not registering the transfer of vehicles on their names. This has been causing several complications and the accidents victims were unable to get insurance benefits, he said.

The minister also advocated amendments in laws pertaining to Road Safety.

Mahender Reddy directed the officials to conduct a special drive to make Aadhar linking compulsory for registration of all vehicles plying in the State.

He said that the details of vehicle ownership, e-challans, contact details, etc., would made available on the official website of transport department www.telanganatransport.gov.in. He said nearly 20 lakh people are using the M-Wallet, the mobile app launched by the Transport Department.

The Minister also asked the police officials to rectify the loopholes in Traffic Challan Point system. Pointing out some financiers were harassing auto-drivers, he asked the police department take measures to prevent such harassment.

Mahender Reddy asked the officials to work towards making Telangana an accident-free State. He said due to some measures taken by the authorities in the recent past, the number of accidents have decreased by 33% while the deaths in accidents have reduced by almost 73%.

The review meeting was attended by Hyderabad Police Commissioner Mahender Reddy, Principal Secretary of Transport Department Sunil Sharma and other senior officials. (INN)
