Seven IPS officers in the race for Telangana DGP post

Hyderabad: At least seven senior IPS officers are in the race for the post of Telangana’s Director General of Police to succeed Anurag Sharma who will retire on November 12 this year.

According to sources, one among seven senior most IPS officers may be appointed as the next DGP of Telangana. The State Government will shortlist three names to be sent to the Centre for final approval.

After Anurag Sharma, 1983 Batch officer Tejdeep Kaur is the senior most officer in the State followed by Sudeep Lakhtakia of 1984 Batch and Yash Kumar of 1985 Batch.

While Sudeep Lakhtakia is presently serving as Additional DGP of CRPF, Yash Kumar is the Director General of National Crime Records Bureau. Four officers of 1986 Batch – Mahender Reddy, Krishna Prasad, Rajiv Trivedi and Alok Prabhakar too are in the race for DGP post.

Since the services of Sudeep Lakhtakia, Yash Kumar and Alok Prabhakar are being used by the Centre, the next DGP could be from among the four remaining officials. One of them might be appointed as the incharge DGP on November 12.

According to sources, the State Government is reportedly planning to continue Anurag Sharma’s services as the Advisor for Home Department. He might also be appointed as the OSD or on other post in the Union Home Ministry. (INN)
