14 persons jailed for ticketless travel in trains

Hyderabad: As many as 14 persons who were found travelling without tickets have been jailed for 10 days each 2nd Metropolitan Magistrate, Secunderabad.

The tickless travellers were caught during a massive ticket checking drive organized at Charlapalli Railway Station on city outskirts by South Central Railway authorities on Monday.

The special drive on ticketless passengers started at 4.30 AM and covered all important trains arriving the city in the morning hours as well as trains leaving from twin cities. The drive covered 36 trains and a total of 529 people were imposed fine amounting Rs. 1,86,370/- for travelling without tickets.

Those who did not pay the fines were sent to jail.

In addition to people travelling without tickets, other irregular travellers like those travelling in upper classes with lower class tickets, travelling in express trains with passenger tickets etc., were also apprehended. A total of 145 such passengers were penalized and an amount of Rs. 41,790/- was collected as fine.

The South Central Railway has cautioned the travelling public to travel with proper tickets and in the class in which they are eligible. (INN)
