MEA to hold seminar in safe and legal migration

Hyderabad: Ministry of External Affairs in collaboration with State Government of Telangana, Telangana Overseas Manpower Company Limited (TOMCOM), UN Women and Indian Centre for Migration (ICM) is organizing first of its kind regional workshop on safe and legal migration in Rajanna Siricilla district on 25th to 26th October.

The two day workshop is a follow up to the first MEA – State Outreach Conference held in Hyderabad in May, 2017 under the ‘Videsh Sampark Series’ and its main objectives are to generate greater awareness on all aspects of migration as well as to support local capacity building efforts for promoting safe and legal migration.

Labour Department’s Principal Secretary Shashank Goel will inaugurate the workshop which will focus on women migrant workers participants from various stakeholder group including district officials, officials from police department, women organizations, recruiting agencies and other NGOs will be attending the workshop.

An illustrated handbook and a poster in Telugu on the rights and responsibilities of migrant women domestic workers, prepared by UN Women and ICM, will be officially released on this occasion.

A special passport camp will also take place simultaneously in Siricilla on 25th and 26th October for the benefit of people of Rajanna Sicicilla and the neighboring districts of Kamareddy, Jagityal and Siddipet. (INN)
