Telangana Govt to introduce health cards for students

Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari has announced that the State Government would soon issue Health Cards for students across the Telangana State.

Addressing the annual meeting of Principals of Telangana Gurukul and Model Schools on Thursday, the Deputy CM said special focus would be laid on health of students and all the students, especially those studying in residential schools. He said health check-ups would be conducted for school children and they would be provided treatment if required.

Kadiyam said nearly 1.25 lakh students were studying in 194 Model Schools across the State. He said despite giving the slogan of ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’, the present NDA Government at the Centre has stopped giving financial assistance to the Model Schools in the country.

However, Telangana Government continued those schools and is spending Rs. 218 crore on them annually. Further, he said the government has established 544 Gurukul Schools and on average Rs. 23 crore were being spent on each schools which takes the total spending to nearly Rs. 11,000 crore per annum.

The Deputy CM said six Gurukul Schools were upgraded to intermediate this year and 29 more schools would be upgraded next year. He asked the Principals to take steps to achieve 100% pass percentage in their schools. He also asked them to encourage students in sports activities by conducting events on regular basis.

He said meetings with parents should be held so as to improve the performance of children. He hoped that Gurukul and Model Schools would emerge as top schools in entire Telangana.

School Education Director G. Kishan, Model Schools Director Satyanarayana Reddy and other officials were also present on the occasion. (INN)
