TS Govt to prepare action plan to irrigate 16.84 lakh acres in Rabi

Hyderabad: Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao has directed the officials to prepare an action plan to prove irrigation facilities to 16,84,211 acres of land across Telangana State in Rabi season.

The minister held a review meeting through video-conference with the top officials at Secretariat on Friday. Addressing the meeting, Harish Rao said that the area of cultivation in the State could increase in the Rabin season as several canals of various irrigation projects were completed during the last one year.

He said last year nearly 16,000 acres of land were irrigated with 1 TMC of water from Nizam Sagar Project. Similarly, this year the cultivation area could increase further.

Harish Rao said that water for irrigation should be released only after making allocations for drinking water. He said a detailed action plan should be prepared on the extent of area that could be irrigated using available water in reservoirs.

The minister asked the irrigation officials to maintain better coordination with the Agriculture and Revenue Departments. He also asked them to compile information on the crops grown in each district. (INN)
