Krishnaiah demands reservation for SC, ST, BCs in courts

Hyderabad: Backward Classes Welfare Association national president and MLA R. Krishnaiah has demanded reservation for SC, ST and BC communities in Supreme Court, High Court and other legal institutions in the country.

Addressing a meeting of BC Advocates’ Association here on Sunday, Krishnaiah said that the Central Government should amend the Constitutions to provide caste-based reservation in legal institutions. He said due to lack of quota in courts, several judgments were being delivered with flaws of social justice.

Krishnaiah said there should be quota for BC, SC and STs in appointment of judges for Supreme Court and High Courts in proportionate to their population.

Further, he said the post of Advocate General or Additional Advocate General should be reserved for BCs. Similarly, the post of Public Prosecutor or Additional PP should be reserved for BCs. He said overall 54% reservation should be given to BCs in various recruitments done in legal institutions.

He also stressed on introduction of BC Bill in the Parliament for providing 50% reservation for BCs in legislative bodies. (INN)
